Our first goal posts were made by one of the fathers. They were timber with a very large stand on the base, one arm of which protruded onto the court. Those playing in the circle became very adept at leaping the posts.
The posts were stored under the (Berowra Public) school building and carried out when needed. They were later stored at the McDonalds’ who lived across Berowra Waters Road from Berowra Oval where we had a grass court scratched out on the corner of the oval. A group of girls carried them out each practice.
Thank you to Mrs Jenny Bentley for access to records, photos, memorabilia and display items from Berowra Netball Club. Thank you also to the members of the first two Berowra Netball teams for their memories drawn from their club’s 50th anniversary (2010) display items and quoted above.
