The following comments relate to a recent encounter at the Hornsby Heritage Event of the Hornsby Festival of The Arts.

“Mrs Collins is a lovely woman, and a wealth of knowledge. To hear directly from Shirley about her lived experience of Berowra’s history was fascinating, a tangible window into a world that one could otherwise only see in photographs or read about. History from a human point of view suddenly populates that history with personality, emotion, and captivating detail. Looking at images, Shirley identified the year portrayed in the photograph by calling on seemingly insignificant details like the body shape of the cars in the image – this was a unique perspective and I’m grateful for the opportunity to catch a glimpse of these moments in time through Shirley’s eyes and memories.”

We would like to acknowledge all our long term residents who have shared their stories and their images with us over the years. Many have also taken part in our exhibitions and presentations from 2007 onwards. Thank you all for being part of Berowra Living History.
